Kas Harbour, Antalya province, Turkey
Choosing the wonderful tourist town of Kas (Kaş) in Antalya province as the starting point of your Kekova boat tour means you will enjoy the beauty of Turkey’s coastline before embarking on your trip.
KaÅŸ, a quaint and relaxed coastal town, is considered to be one of the most beautiful destinations along the Turkish Riviera with its pristine beaches, stunning blue waters, charming town centre, and a plethora of activities for thrill-seekers, such as diving, trekking, parasailing, and canoeing.
As part of Turkey’s Kalkan coastline, Kaş can be found between Fethiye and Demre, with a few Greek islands in the vicinity contributing to its stunning seascape. Looking over from the hillside of cascading houses, the view of Kaş’ luscious green peninsula also adds to the former fishing village’s charm and beauty.
Down below, Kaş’s famous harbour is usually lined with gulets, many of which await the day-trippers ready to explore the crystal-clear waters of the Kekova region. The waters seem to glisten from all directions, and at night time, the coastline shines brightly beneath the moonlight, juxtaposing with the backdrop of tall, dark mountains.
Before or after your sailing trip, give yourself time to wander along the harbour, where locals are busy preparing for the boat trips. Try not to be too fazed by the amount of traffic in this area, and instead, absorb the goings-on of this bustling area, with boutique shops and a variety of cafes and restaurants. While enjoying the waterfront later in the day, you may catch sight of a paraglider as they descend over the harbour or be lucky enough to enjoy a trademark vivid, red KaÅŸ sunset.
As well as hanging out at the harbour, if you can spend more time in Kaş, it is a great place to meander around the pretty hilly streets, taking advantage of the town’s quality shopping or searching for historic ruins. If you would like to do a spot of sunbathing or swimming, Kucuk Cakil Plajı (a.k.a. Small Pebble Beach) is located along the peninsula, as is the beautiful Hidayet Koyu further along. Büyük Çakıl Plajı (a.k.a. Mermaid Beach or Big Pebble Beach) is also reachable by foot from the town centre, another perfect sunset spot.
